Concept Mouldings to unveil integrated pedestrian safety development at Automechanika following praise for its new frontal protection system

Concept Mouldings has achieved international acclaim for its new aftermarket frontal protection system and is set to unveil how this can be incorporated and further developed in aftermarket and original vehicle design at Automechanika on Wednesday 13th September.

The FIA Foundation’s technical director Frank van West said: “The Concept Mouldings FPS has shown very good performance in MIRA tests and already meets the requirements of the European Directive 2005/66/EC which will be effective from May 2007.Because of the good energy absorption capacity the FPS will definitely reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries in the case of (unfair) collisions with vulnerable road users.”

“The FIA Foundation welcomes this development which will reduce human tragedy and contribute to the target of the European Commission to reduce road traffic fatalities in the EU by 50% in 2010 compared to 2000."

At a press conference to be held between 14:00 and 15:00 in the Struktur room, Hall 5, Ian Finney, managing director of Concept Mouldings will highlight the benefits of the aftermarket Endura FPS system and outline how further developments in the pipeline will offer a cost effective solution for car manufactures who are trying to make their vehicles safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

Ian Finney said: ”Concept Mouldings owns patent and patent pending technology for separate technical units and integrated systems which will meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s vehicles.

The scale of the problem is underlined by the fact that 900 UK and 12,000 European pedestrians and cyclists are killed every year and more than 9,000 and 290,000 respectively are seriously injured, according to statistics produced for the EU by the Transport Research laboratory.

Ian Finney said: “The level of carnage on Europe’s roads is a tragedy and globally the position is even worse with deaths at epidemic proportions. The problem has admirably been highlighted by the international Make roads Safe Campaign which is supported by the FIA and we too are committed to finding vehicle solutions which can make a real difference to pedestrian safety throughout the world.”
