Concept
Mouldings seeks political support after “pedestrian
safety” breakthrough
Concept Mouldings is one company that saw the introduction
of European directives to improve the pedestrian safety
of vehicles as a gauntlet that had to be picked up.
The company is now seeking support for its work from
politicians and legislators who it hopes will recognise
the massive potential of new products it has in the
pipeline.
After 10 years of research & development work,
using the tests developed to help frame legislation
in Europe, the company has produced a device that has
the potential to radically speed up the implementation
of safer fronts for 4 x 4 vehicles.
More than a decade ago the anti-Bull Bar campaign
focussed attention across Europe on the potential dangers
of 4 x 4 vehicles. Tests developed to show that metal
bull bars were a problem also highlighted the fact
that the fronts of 4 x 4 vehicles themselves would
not pass the tests.
Seeing the difficulties faced by this type of vehicle
design Concept Mouldings managing director Ian Finney
set out to prove that a solution could be found
in the energy absorbing qualities of a well designed
frontal protection system.
The case has finally been proved by testing at the
Motor Industry Research Association facility in the
UK where two popular 4 x 4 vehicles were tested with
and without a new patented Concept Mouldings FPS
device. The tests proved conclusively that the future
legislation can be met and pedestrian safety improved
through the use of “energy absorbing” frontal
protection systems.
